Environment and territory

Rice fields in the San Gavino countrysideThe territory of San Gavino is situated in a large flat area that mostly appears to be made up of formations mainly comprising shingle, sand, silt and sandy clay of alluvium.

The flat land is crossed by several water paths, of which the Mannu River, 52 km long and one of the longest in the island.

The area, rich in aquifer (also subterranean), has a landscape heavily influenced by the hydro and geomorphological progress.

Grain fieldCompletely lacking mountains and hills, the spontaneous flora is limited to small bushes and common species of Mediterranean shrub, the latter also limited due to cultivation.

This area is free from trees, which are relatively abundant in the nearby Linas Mountain range. The fauna is characterised by foxes, wild rabbits, hares and weasels.
